Recently, most of us have been hit hard by the rising prices of gasoline and we feel trapped by not having alternatives. For those of use who pursue alternatives in our health it can be especially frustrating to not have alternative energy sources. It is important to know, however, that there are alternatives to gasoline, available right now, in most parts of the country!

What I'm referring to is using Vegetable Oil as fuel. All you need is a vehicle powered by a Diesel Engine. Diesel engines were originally designed by a German engineer, named Diesel of course, to burn vegetable oil as fuel. Only later was a petroleum-based fuel capable of burning in Diesel's engines created. There is also a slightly more efficient derivative of Vegetable Oil available called Biodiesel...it is also a little more expensive.

Some of the Key Points about using Biodiesel or Vegetable Oil as fuel are:

- hydrocarbon emissions are only about 10% to 25% the levels of an equivalently sized engine buring petroleum fuels.

- Using these fuels gets you out of the oil-burning cycle, resulting in cleaner air and better health. If a significant number of people make this change over the next 5 years, we will see a dramatic drop in air pollution and a corresponding drop in cases of respiratory diseases.

- As gas prices continue to rise, in the long run you can save a lot of money.

while putting vegetable oil in your mouth can be detrimental to your health, putting it in your vehicle's fuel tank can enhance health, save the planet and save you money! Essentially, all you need to do is switch to a vehicle with a diesel engine, or, when the engine in your current vehicle dies, replace it with a diesel.
