Western herbal supplements are in widespread use, often self-prescribed by patients as OTC medicines.
Knowledge of these herbs and their potential interactions with Chinese herbs, nutritional supplements
and prescription medications is essential for safe practice.
In some instances, Western herbalists have discovered additional uses for the same plants used in Chinese Herbal
Medicine, which are a valuable addition to traditional Chinese herbology.
Additionally, there are a number of Western herbs with no counterpart in Chinese Herbology which are highly
efficacious and make an excellent addition to the toolkit of every practitioner of Oriental Medicine. Sometime
they can be used based on their energetic properties, and others based on their chemical constituents.
